Gele’s guidance was crucial in overcoming altitude challenges, ensuring every moment was unforgettable.
I used Gele as my guide for the Annapurna Circuit in October 2014. He provided a fantastic service to me. His advice was always spot on and he took great care in ensuring that I was well looked after. I first met Gele when he was the Lead Guide for a large UK company for a trip to Everest base camp. As a former Royal Marine I was very impressed with the professional way he led a group of strangers. Particularly in regard to their safety. I would strongly reccomend him to anyone visiting Nepal with the intention of trekking.

In both cases Gele excelled. His attention to detail and his knowledge was first class. Thoroughly recommended. I have spent approximately six weeks (over the course of two trips) with Gele in Nepal and each was an extraordinary experience. My first trek with Gele was the Three Passes Trek, a long trip that includes a week between 15k and 18.5k feet of elevation. This circuit trip includes a stop by the Everest Base Camp, but that is not the main destination of the trip (it also includes the Gokyo area, which is amazing). It was a physically demanding trek because of the prolonged hiking at high elevations. Gele led the trip and was outstanding in all respects — expert knowledge of each step of the trek, great care about acclimatizing and other challenges, great leadership, and a wonderful sense of humor and positive spirit. Photos from this trip are posted below. Gele was such a great leader and companion that I asked him to lead me on a second trip around Manaslu and into the Tsum valley near Tibet. This was a two week plus trek with only Gele and one porter. Again, he did an incredible job in every respect. Beyond the technical skills and experience that made for a very smooth trip, Gele's warm and enthusiastic personality opened the door to numerous opportunities to meet other guides, trekkers and many locals for good conversation, long card games, etc. Just a fantastic experience in all respects. In addition to his skills as a guide, leader and companion, I saw numerous acts of generosity and kindness on his part. Helping an older hiker down a very difficult pass and declining an offer of payment; allowing a young solo hike to join us for a day and again declining an offer of payment; sharing medical supplies with a mother and her young son; talking to a young girl and boy about the importance of school and education. I know that Gele also was responsible for having much needed trash recepticles built along the EBC route (where trash is a significant problem), and has paid special attention to the physical demands (and potential problems these create) for porters in the Nepal area. In short, a trip with Gele is multi-dimensional -- an incredible, comfortable and safe hiking experience, but also a tremendous opportunity to experience the culture of Nepal and try to hike with a leader in a socially and environmentally responsible way. Gele is not just a great guide, he’s a very special person. To put it simply, I could not recommend Gele and Gele Trekking more highly. I have trekked in Nepal on eight occasions and first met Gele in 2009 when he led a group of seven friends on the Mardi Himal trek. We met Gele a second time, 5 years later in 2014, when we were trekking to Poon Hill with a different guide and, by coincidence, Gele was at the same viewpoint with a separate group of clients. Having talked to members of that separate group, we both reached the conclusion, that Gele was one of the best guides we had ever worked with, both in Nepal but also comparing to other treks completed in other countries. This has resulted in us subsequently selecting Gele as the “go-to” guide in Nepal on three more occasions to date. Gele balances an expert knowledge of each trail or route, best views, local history, local flora and fauna and good locations for each overnight stay, having consideration for the local culture and customs. He prioritises client safety, with risk and altitude sickness at the forefront, but with a very caring approach to comfort and each client’s ability. Nothing needs to happen in a hurry as he ensures sufficient time is allocated for the distance to be covered. He adopts a very flexible attitude in tailoring each trek to suit each client’s needs, factoring in that groups will invariably have a mix of abilities, allocating sufficient support staff to look after the clients. Having trekked with Gele both in a group as well as just two of us, he is equally able to adapt to ensure that all achieve safety, comfort, enjoyment, and completion of the trek. Gele has a profound sense of humour, is very personable and enthusiastic about his clients and their success. This adds to the enjoyment of the trek. He has a great knack of lifting spirits, especially when the going gets a little tougher, gently persuading those who may need moral support. For me, this goes a long way in giving confidence, where needed. He reads each client and determines the level of support that each client needs. I recommend that you consider selecting Gele for your trekking needs in Nepal. Milos Lichner2025-01-08Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Gele is an exceptional guide and an outstanding companion. His professionalism, experience, and calm make him incredibly trustworthy. In November, I had the pleasure of going on a three-day trek with him before attending a conference at Kathmandu. Thanks to Gele, the experience was not only safe but also deeply enriching and memorable. I can wholeheartedly recommend his services to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable guide. Gele's trustworthiness was evident from our first meeting in Scotland. He then led a memorable day trek in the Scottish mountains. I would highly recommend him and his team, and I'm eager to trek with them in Nepal in the future. Scott Avera2024-12-17Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I picked Gele Trekking for my trekking experience to Everest Base Camp (EBC) because of its award-winning reputation. I also liked the fact they are committed to bettering the condition of the Nepalese people with their one-porter-one-guest policy to reduce the brain damaging practice of head carrying. By providing me a one-of-a-kind journey that was personalized, local, comfortable, safe, and authentic, they greatly exceeded all my expectations. I mention personalized because I worked with Gele to design a unique combination of stops, including a helicopter flight, to maximize what I saw in my 8+ days of trekking. It was local with Gele tying in exposure to families and places only he knows about having grown up in the region. It was comfortable with us selecting the nicest tea houses on the route with Gele making sure my accommodations were ready and delicious hot meals always available. Gele was also always around without being intrusive to make sure I stayed safe and out of trouble. And finally, the trip was even more authentic than I had hoped with each step seeming ultra real in what I can only describe as near-magical surroundings. All-in-all, my trek with Gele changed my life. Gele made my journey through the Himalayas so much more than just a trek. By exposing me to the people, religions, customs, and nature that intertwine the trail, Kathmandu, and all of Nepal, I returned home changed with a new appreciation for a world that has such a special place, and such a special guide. I can’t wait for my next trek with Gele.Load more
